Hargrave Military Academy is a private, Christian boarding school serving boys from grades seven to one postgraduate year in Southwest Virginia. Hargrave offers a 'How to Study' program, discipline, and challenging college preparatory classes in a meaningful, structured environment. Opportunities to lead peers, make athletic contributions and participate in enjoyable campus events provide a productive, well-rounded experience for any student. Development of personal responsibility, fitness, academic grades and moral character are important goals for each Cadet. Small classes, an adviser program and after class office time with instructors ensure that our Cadets remain on a positive academic path geared towards the collegiate level. Hargrave maintains an average student-teacher ratio of 11:1. Hargrave averages approximately 400 students per year. The Academy maintains accreditation with the Virginia Association of Independent Schools and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Hargrave welcomes students of all faiths and denominations. Physical exercise and sports are an important part of the Hargrave culture. The Academy fields 22 athletic teams for all ages and abilities. Our sports venues include a 50m indoor pool, six lighted tennis courts and professional style ball field. Hargrave teams are frequently seen as Virginia Independent Conference champions or contenders. Acceptance to Hargrave is offered based on the candidates¡¯ previous academic record, standardized test results, teacher recommendations and a personal interview during a campus visit.
